Document Code Dialog
Used to generate and apply document code to a document. Document codes provide a way of uniquely identifying documents within an environment. Opens when you select .
The form of the code is defined by the administrator and can be a combination of a number of attribute fields in the datasource. Characters can be used for separating the individual fields and these are also defined by the administrator. (The generation of the document code rules is carried out in ProjectWise Administrator.)
| Setting | Description |

| Code fields | Enter the compulsory codes in the relevant fields and any optional codes you require. |
| Advanced | Expands the dialog to display more options. |
| Next available | When on (the default), the next available number above the highest existing code number will be used when you click Generate. For example, if your existing serial numbers are 1, 4, 6, 8, 12, then '13' would be the next available number generated. |
| First unused | When on, all unused numbers are assessed and the lowest available number will be used when you click Generate. For example, if your existing serial numbers are 1, 4, 6, 8, 12, then '2' would be the first unused number generated. This allows the system to reuse the number code from a deleted document. |
| Range | Used in conjunction with the previous options, it enables the Lower and Upper fields for editing so you can set the range to be searched for the first unused/next available number. For example, if your existing serial numbers are 1, 4, 6, 8, 12, your Range is set between 6 and 11, and First unused is on, then 7 will be the next number generated. |
| Numbers in Sequence | If you are generating code for multiple documents, turn on Numbers in Sequence to force the generated numbers to be in sequence. For example, if your existing serial numbers are 1, 4, 6, 8, 12, and you are generating code for five documents, if you do not turn on Numbers in Sequence, then the numbers 2, 3, 5, 7, 9 are generated; if you turn on Numbers in Sequence, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 are generated. |
| Generate | Generates the codes according to the rules you established in the advanced section of the dialog and the document code displays in the Document Code field. |
| Save | Saves the document code and the dialog closes. |
| Clear | Clears all the fields on the dialog. |
